About Me
Carmen Baniandrés is a multifaceted professional, serving as a curator, researcher, writer, and lecturer. She currently holds the position of lecturer in 'Fashion Design Theory' at Francisco de Vitoria University.
She first started assisting at the Department of Contemporary Fashion at the Museo del Traje. CIPE. Subsequently, she curated two remarkable exhibitions, namely, Madrid Shines: 100 años de moda en Madrid, an online exhibition, and 12 maneras de entender la moda, both with the Villanueva University in Spain. Carmen has also contributed as a museologist at Imprenta Municipal - Artes del Libro, where she honed her cataloging skills.
As an accomplished researcher and writer, she has published two notable papers. The first, titled "Juanjo Rocafort: blusa y pantalón," was printed by el Museo del Traje. CIPE as part of their monthly activity "Modelo del Mes" ("Piece of the Month"). The second paper, "Virgil Abloh: An Academic Approach to His Communication Strategies," was co-authored with Maria Rufat, both members of the Research Center on Fashion and Contemporary Phenomena (CIMFM). This paper was presented at FACTUM 2021, an event organized by ISEM and hosted by the Universidad de Navarra.
Carmen's hands-on experience extends to the world of fashion styling, where she worked with the luxury e-commerce company Mytheresa.com. This role provided her with valuable insights into the business aspects of fashion, as well as a deep understanding of luxury products and brands.
In addition to her professional background, Carmen remains dedicated to education. Currently, she imparts her knowledge as an instructor of 'Fashion Design Theory' at Francisco de Vitoria University. She also has a history of teaching short courses, including 'Spanish Fashion History' and 'Retail in Madrid,' at Villanueva University. Furthermore, she has conducted workshops for the renowned Italian fashion institution, Polimoda, at their booth during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid 2023.
Carmen is a recent graduate of the MA in Fashion Communication, specializing in the Fashion Critical Studies pathway, from Central Saint Martins. Her passion for contemporary fashion and subcultures continues to drive her academic and professional pursuits.
